Grass Valley Elementary School
In Nevada, every school creates an annual School Performance Plan (SPP) focused on three areas: Student Success (academic achievement), Adult Learning (professional growth for staff), and Connectedness (strong relationships among students, families, staff, and community).
In Humboldt County School District (HCSD), we work together with students, staff, families, and the community to review last year’s goals and identify areas for improvement. Nevada evaluates schools using the Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF), giving each school a star rating from 1 to 5 to show performance and growth. The previous year’s star rating is used to guide and review the current year’s School Performance Plan, helping schools set goals and track progress. This system also identifies schools needing additional support under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) through three designations: Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI), and Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI). Schools in the lowest 30% for English learner achievement are required to include targeted goals in their SPP.

Parents can support learning by encouraging children to participate in class, work with peers, and share ideas; asking about what they are learning and discussing real-world connections; checking in on quick assignments and celebrating progress; supporting short reading or learning activities at home; and encouraging consistent attendance so students benefit from targeted lessons. Staying informed about school goals, communicating with teachers about your child’s needs and successes, providing a home environment that supports focus and routines, and encouraging your child to use the materials and resources provided by the school also help reinforce the learning taking place at Grass Valley Elementary.
